Localizzazione dello stato indiano di Maharashtra

Maharashtra [1] è il nome di uno stato nell'Ovest dell'India. E' secondo per numero di abitanti e terzo per superficie. Il suo territorio si estende dalla costa sul mare Arabico all'interno del Deccan presentando così una grande varietà climatica e geografica. E' uno stato fortemente industrializzato soprattutto lungo l'asse Bombay-Pune. L'agricoltura, condotta con il metodo dell'irrigazione, è una voce importante nell'economia dello stato. Le regioni settentrionali e orientali sono comunque ancora arretrate.

For administrative purposes, the state is sub-divided into six divisions and further into 35 districts. Officially, all divisions save one are named after the district where the headquarters of the division is located. But the divisions are also popularly known by other names and that is how they are listed here. The official names of the divisions are given alongside in brackets.

• Nasik The city of pilgrimage - The Grape city
• Ajanta - Buddhist caves - a complex of caves representing some of the best of early Buddhist art.

Lingue parlate

The principal languages spoken are Marathi and Konkani. Konkani is spoken in the Konkan region, while the rest of the state speaks Marathi.

In most parts of the state peopl will understand Hindi too as the two dialects bear some similarities to each other.

English is spoken in all major cities and towns like Mumbai, Pune, Nasik, Aurangabad (home to Ajanta and Ellora), Nagpur etc.

Coastal Maharashtra (Konkan) has some of very beautiful beaches. With a 720 km coast line, there are beautiful beach destinations almost every 50-100 kms, starting from Dahanu in the Northern part of the State to Sindhudurg, at the Southern tip.

Mentre le spiagge di Bordi, Gorai, Juhu, Alibag, Kashid e Murud-Janjira presentano una buona varietà di infrastrutture turistiche, tutte le altre rimangono escluse dai circuiti turistici per la mancanza di stutture ricettizie. L'unica scelta decente è costituita dalle proprietà gestite dall'Ente turistico statale il "Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation" (MTDC). Essendo questi resorts a carattere statale e non privato non brillano certo nel servizio e nella somministrazione del cibo.
